Historic Stock Car Racing Association Launches New HSR NASCAR Classic Series
Daytona Beach, FL (August 15, 2023) – The Historic Stock Car Racing Association (HSCRA) has announced the launch of the HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Petty’s Garage, a new historic stock car racing series dedicated to showcasing the glory days of NASCAR’s past. The series will make its debut at Virginia International Raceway on August 23-24, 2023, supporting the IMSA Michelin GT Challenge.
The HSR NASCAR Classic will then join NASCAR at Watkins Glen International on September 13-14 and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval on October 11-12. The new series will collaborate closely with the HSCRA, which has a strong history of supporting NASCAR and IMSA race weekends, as well as the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association.
“The across-the-board support for and the rapid growth of the HSR Classic Stock Cars category made starting a dedicated series around the division an easy decision,” said HSR president Chris Ward. “NASCAR stock cars of all generations are perhaps the most identifiable category of race cars in the U.S. to motorsports enthusiasts, competitors and even mainstream audiences.”
The series will feature a variety of historic NASCAR stock cars, with vehicles split into seven categories based on their model year and specifications. The cars are required to retain their authentic original sponsor liveries, preserving the nostalgia of the era.
Petty’s Garage, an aftermarket parts distributor run by the legendary Petty family and its patriarch Richard Petty, has signed on as the title sponsor. The announcement of the new series took place on Petty’s 87th birthday, making the partnership a fitting tribute to the sport’s rich history.
The HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Petty’s Garage is set to provide a thrilling showcase of historic stock car racing, catering to the growing enthusiasm of motorsports enthusiasts, competitors, and mainstream audiences alike.
