DAKAR RALLY NEWS: Apple’s Formula 1 Inspired Film Given 2025 Release Date
Fans of the Dakar Rally and motorsports enthusiasts alike can look forward to a new high-octane film inspired by the world of Formula 1, set to hit theaters on June 25, 2025. The untitled project, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has been in the works for some time, facing delays due to last year’s Hollywood actors’ strike.
The film, which will feature Brad Pitt as a former F1 driver who makes a comeback, was originally slated for release in June 2024. However, the production team has now announced the global theatrical release, including IMAX screenings, will take place on June 25, 2025, with the North American debut following two days later on June 27.
In a press release, Formula 1 stated that the “crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.” The film also stars Damson Idris as the rookie racer alongside Pitt’s character.
Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, who is a producer on the project and involved in the script writing, revealed that the strike by SAG-AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) last year had forced the production to scrap plans to film key scenes at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. However, Hamilton remains confident in the final product, stating, “It’s still going to be great, might cost a little bit more but I’m really confident in what Jerry is going to produce.”
The film’s production has continued at various 2023 F1 races, with the team utilizing a modified Formula 2 car in the fictional APXGP team colors. Filming is set to wrap up at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, with additional footage captured at the Hungarian, Belgian, Mexican, and Vegas events.
As the Dakar Rally community eagerly awaits the release of this high-octane film, the budget has reportedly increased to over $300 million, making it one of the most expensive movies ever produced. Motorsports fans can mark their calendars for June 25, 2025, when this thrilling cinematic experience inspired by the world of Formula 1 will hit the big screen.
