Thrilling Start for Ferrari AF Corse at Home WEC Round in Imola

Imola, Italy – It’s been an exhilarating start to the home race weekend for the Ferrari AF Corse team as the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) prepares for the 6 Hours of Imola, the second round of the season.

In the highly competitive Hypercar class, the Italian squad secured the top spot in both the opening practice sessions, showcasing their strong pace at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit. Meanwhile, in the LMGT3 category, it was another double success for the British team TF Sport and their pair of Corvette ZO6 LMGT3.R cars.

“During the first practice session (FP1), four of the top five cars were Italian, with the #83 Ferrari driven by China’s Yifei Ye posting a blistering 1:31.347 to lead the way.”

The second practice session (FP2) saw the factory Ferrari team take the initiative, as Antonio Fuoco piloted the #50 car to a 1:30.957, the fastest time of the day. However, the Porsche Penske Motorsport #6 car, which had dominated the season-opening Qatar 1812km race, was hot on their heels, with Kevin Estre posting a time just 0.342 seconds behind Fuoco. The #83 Ferrari, driven by Robert Schwartzman, also maintained its strong pace, finishing just 0.032 seconds off the Porsche’s best.

In the LMGT3 class, TF Sport continued to impress, securing the top two positions in FP1 and the first and third spots in FP2. The only car to split the Corvettes was the #54 Ferrari 296 LMGT3 of Vista AF Corse, piloted by Alessio Rovera, who recorded a time of 1:42.173 in the second session.

With the lap time difference between the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes just 10 seconds, the stage is set for an enthralling weekend of endurance racing action at the historic Imola circuit. Fans and enthusiasts can follow the latest updates and full results on the official WEC website.
