Dakar Rally: Porsche 911 Dakar Dominates After Commanding Victory at Brands Hatch
Brands Hatch, UK – (May 10, 2023) – In the second round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint series, the Porsche 911 Dakar of Lucas Auer and Maro Engel secured a dominant lights-to-flag victory at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit.
Driving the #48 Winward Racing MANN FILTER Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo, Auer made a lightning start from pole position and held the lead throughout the race, steadily building a comfortable gap to his rivals. The Austrian driver handed over the car to Engel during the pit stop window, and the German ace managed the remainder of the race with ease, crossing the finish line well ahead of the chasing pack.
The #69 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of Giacomo Altoe and Thierry Vermeulen finished in second place, while the #9 Boutsen VDS Mercedes team rounded out the podium.
“It was a perfect day for us,” commented Auer. “The car was absolutely on point, and we were able to control the race from start to finish. Maro did a great job bringing it home, and we’re delighted to take the win here at Brands Hatch.”
The victory marks the second consecutive win for the Porsche 911 Dakar in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe, further cementing its status as a dominant force in the series. The next round of the championship will take place at the Misano circuit in Italy on the 17th-19th of May.
