British GT News: Reigning Formula 1 Champion Verstappen to Make Goodwood Debut
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is set to make his debut appearance at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, as part of a major Red Bull Racing presence at the event.
Verstappen, who secured his first F1 title in 2021, will pilot the RB16B – the car in which he claimed that championship triumph – up the famous Goodwood Hill Climb on the Sunday of the festival, scheduled for July 11-14. This will mark the first time the current F1 world champion has attended the event in its 31-year history.
Red Bull Lineup
Joining Verstappen will be his current Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who is scheduled to drive the team’s 2023 challenger, the RB19. Team principal Christian Horner, a former Formula 3000 competitor, will also get behind the wheel of an RB8 from 2012.
The extensive Red Bull lineup will be complemented by appearances from former team drivers Daniel Ricciardo, David Coulthard, Mark Webber and Christian Klien, who will pilot a range of historic Red Bull F1 cars, including the RB1 from the team’s debut season in 2005.
“In its 31-year history, this is the first time that the Festival of Speed has celebrated a Formula 1 team on this scale,” said Goodwood founder the Duke of Richmond. “To have both the current drivers – not to mention the reigning world champion – the CEO and team principal, as well as so many team icons is fantastic.”
The Red Bull presence at Goodwood will follow the world debut of the team’s new, Adrian Newey-designed RB17 hypercar on the Friday of the event. It promises to be a significant showcase for the Milton Keynes-based squad, as they bring their past, present and future to one of the most prestigious motorsport gatherings in the world.
