Ginetta GM56 GT4 Enters British GT Championship with Toro Verde
Porsche Carrera Cup GB regulars Toro Verde will make their debut in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship this season, fielding a Ginetta G56 GT4 car driven by James Townsend and Ian Duggan.
Both Townsend and Duggan have progressed through the Ginetta motorsport ladder, with Duggan winning the 2022 Ginetta GT4 Super Cup AM championship and Townsend finishing third in the series last year. The duo previously raced together in the GT Cup championship.
Toro Verde, founded in 2021, has raced extensively throughout the UK and Europe, including the GT2 European Series, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, and the Ginetta GT5 Challenge. In 2022, the team made the move to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the Gulf 12 Hours, and the Ginetta GT Academy.
“Racing with Ginetta has given me a national platform to hone my skills and improve my race craft over the past five years, and having had success in two very competitive championships I’m now excited to test my ability in British GT,” said Duggan, who started his racing career in the Ginetta G40 Chairmans Cup.
Townsend, who has made 90% of his career starts in Ginetta machinery, is also looking forward to the challenge. “The opening weekend at Oulton Park will mark my 100th career race start, and being able to make my debut in the British GT Championship in the G56 proves the success of Ginetta’s motorsport ladder.”
Toro Verde team principal Julian Westwood, who has previous experience in British GT programs, believes the team can be a “surprise package” this year despite the Am/Am pairing. “With Ian we have a proven Am champion in multiple championships who has shown excellent pace and consistency, and with James, we have a professional approach and quick adaptation to new cars.”
The 31st season of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on 8/10 April.
