Norris Clinches Pole in Thrilling Dutch GT Qualifying

Zandvoort, Netherlands – (September 10, 2024) – In an electrifying display of driving prowess, Lando Norris secured pole position for the Dutch GT race at the historic Zandvoort circuit. The McLaren driver’s stunning performance in qualifying saw him edge out the local hero, Max Verstappen, by a margin of just 0.356 seconds.

Norris’ advantage was built on a blistering first sector, where he managed to gain a quarter-second over Verstappen. The British driver’s superior traction out of the slower corners, combined with an efficient use of the engine braking, allowed him to carry more momentum into the banked third corner and beyond.

“It’s always special to take pole at Zandvoort, especially in front of the passionate Dutch fans,” said Norris. “The team has worked incredibly hard, and I’m delighted to reward their efforts with this result. We still have a long race ahead of us, but this is a great starting position.”

Verstappen, driving the Honda-powered Red Bull, was not far behind, setting the second-fastest time in the session. The Dutchman’s aggressive style saw him carry more speed into the first corner, but he ultimately fell short in the traction phase, struggling to match Norris’ acceleration out of the slower turns.

The battle between the two titans was a testament to the competitiveness of the Dutch GT championship, with the final margin highlighting the fine margins at play. Norris’ ability to maximize the McLaren’s performance in the technical middle sector also proved crucial in securing the pole position.

Norris’ teammate, Oscar Piastri, was unable to match the pace of the leading duo, finishing third on the grid. The young Australian struggled with the gusty conditions around the seaside circuit, particularly in the high-speed Turn 10 and the following complex.

The Dutch GT race is set to be a thrilling affair, with Norris leading the charge for McLaren and Verstappen determined to delight the home crowd. Fans are in for a treat as the championship’s top contenders go head-to-head in the battle for victory.
