Dakar Rally: Porsche Penske Motorsport Poised for Strong Performance
The 2023 FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship) season is off to an exciting start, and Porsche Penske Motorsport is poised to make a significant impact. Despite having only one Porsche 963 LMDh car qualify for the Hyperpole session, the team’s overall performance during free practice has demonstrated their competitiveness.
Porsche Penske Motorsport boss Jonathan Diuguid has expressed confidence in the team’s three equally matched cars going into the race. The challenge the team faced during the first qualifying session was finding a clear lap, as the Porsche 963 LMDhs are significantly faster than the LMGT3 cars, making it difficult to find an unobstructed run.
“Managing the traffic during first qualifying isn’t easy,” Diuguid said. “We are 15-20s faster than the LMGT3 cars, so finding a hole isn’t easy. No matter what you do, you are going to catch one.”
Despite this setback, Porsche Penske Motorsport’s pace in free practice suggests that they still have three competitive cars in the running. With Kevin Estre topping the times in the sole Porsche 963 LMDh that made it into the Hyperpole session, the team’s chances of success in the upcoming race remain high.
As the WEC 2023 season progresses, all eyes will be on Porsche Penske Motorsport and their efforts to claim victory in this highly competitive series. The team’s strong showing in the opening rounds has positioned them as a clear favorite, and their ability to manage the challenges presented by traffic will be crucial in their pursuit of the coveted championship.
