Dakar Rally News: Briatore Joins Alpine as Advisor, Seeking to Boost Team Performance
In a move that has garnered significant attention in the Formula 1 paddock, Alpine F1 team principal Bruno Fernandes has welcomed the appointment of Flavio Briatore as an advisor to the team. This comes despite Briatore’s history of being initially banned from Formula 1 for life, a decision later overturned.
Speaking on the matter, Fernandes emphasized that he is focused on the future, not the past. >”I’m looking ahead, not backward,” he stated. Fernandes believes Briatore’s extensive experience and high-level knowledge of Formula 1 will be valuable in helping Alpine develop their team and improve performance.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff echoed similar sentiments, stating that “everybody deserves the opportunity to come back” and that Briatore’s expertise could benefit Alpine, particularly in simplifying things and applying common sense. Ferrari’s Frédéric Vasseur also expressed that Briatore’s return could be a positive step forward for Alpine and the sport.
Aston Martin’s Mike Krack agreed, noting Briatore’s track record in bringing sponsors and new venues to Formula 1, which have been crucial for the sport’s development. >”We need clever people in Formula 1, and I think that Flavio, we can say that he’s a clever one,” Krack added.
The appointment of Briatore has certainly sparked discussion within the Dakar Rally community, as his experience and input could potentially influence the strategic direction of Alpine’s involvement in the world’s toughest off-road racing event. Motorsport enthusiasts will be keen to see how Briatore’s return to a senior role in Formula 1 unfolds and the impact it may have on Alpine’s Dakar Rally efforts.
