Haas Makes Plans to Utilize Kevin Magnussen’s Expertise in 2023
In a move to bolster their 2023 Formula 1 campaign, the Haas F1 Team has outlined plans to leverage the experience and talents of departing driver Kevin Magnussen. Though the Dane has been replaced by Esteban Ocon for the upcoming season, team principal Ayao Komatsu is keen to keep Magnussen involved with the squad in an advisory or testing capacity.
“We can do up to 20 days of testing previous cars (TPC) next year, and current race drivers are limited to 1,000 kilometers of running,” Komatsu explained. “We expect most of that mileage to be used up by Esteban and Ollie [Bearman] in January, but having Kevin available as a reference driver for in-season TPC will be invaluable.”
Magnussen’s extensive experience with the Haas team, dating back to 2017, makes him a valuable asset, according to Komatsu. The team is also looking to utilize Magnussen’s skills in the team’s new simulator facility in Banbury, where his expertise as a simulator driver during his time at McLaren could prove beneficial.
“There are many ways we can use Kevin,” Komatsu stated. “He can also serve as a reserve driver for select circuits, as his recent performances have shown he is more than capable of filling that role.”
The decision to retain Magnussen’s services is driven by Haas’ desire to maximize the team’s potential in the competitive British GT Championship. With the 2023 season just around the corner, the team is leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of success.
