Dakar Rally Update: Lamborghini Claims Victory at Lausitzring DTM Race

In an exciting turn of events at the Lausitzring circuit, Mirko Bortolotti, driving the SSR Performance Lamborghini, secured his second victory of the 2023 DTM Championship. The Italian driver’s masterful performance puts him at the top of the standings, seven points ahead of former leader, Thomas Preining.

Bortolotti’s triumph came after a hard-fought battle with Ricardo Feller of Abt Sportsline. Starting from pole position, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 driver maintained his lead throughout the race, fending off a determined challenge from Feller in the closing laps.

The qualifying session saw Bortolotti set the fastest lap time, earning him the Pirelli Pole Position Award and three additional championship points. The top 25 drivers finished within a second of each other, showcasing the highly competitive nature of the DTM series.

Bortolotti’s victory marks the first time a driver has won two races in the 2023 DTM Championship.

The Italian driver, who is currently second in the overall standings, was eager to close the gap to the championship leader, Thomas Preining. However, Preining’s fourth-place finish was not enough to maintain his lead, as Bortolotti’s impressive performance propelled him to the top of the leaderboard.

The race was not without incident, as Franck Perera, Bortolotti’s teammate, collided with Clemens Schmid’s GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, promoting Thomas Preining to the podium. Luca Stolz, driving the Team HRT Mercedes-AMG, also had a strong performance, finishing third after a superb pit stop.

The Dakar Rally community will be keeping a close eye on Bortolotti’s progress as the DTM Championship continues. The next round of the series will take place on the 8th-10th of September at the Sachsenring, where Bortolotti will look to further solidify his lead in the standings.
