British GT 2023: Orange Racing Powered by JMH Joins the Grid with McLaren 720S GT3
In a significant move for the upcoming 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship, the successful GT Cup champions Simon Orange and Michael O’Brien have committed to a full-time campaign in the series. The duo will be piloting the Orange Racing powered by JMH McLaren 720S GT3, marking their debut in the prestigious British GT championship.
The Pro-Am pairing secured a commendable fourth-place finish at the 2022 Donington Decider, with O’Brien setting the fastest lap in the process. Eager to carry forward their momentum, the team has also secured an entry in the Asian Le Mans Series, which takes place in February. British GT race winner Marcus Clutton will join the team for the four-race Asian Le Mans campaign, further bolstering their preparations for the main British GT season.
For O’Brien, this will mark a full-season return to the British GT Championship, having last competed in the series alongside James Baldwin back in 2020. Since then, his association with McLaren has seen him racing in other series, with his most notable success being the GTH championship in the 2022 GT Cup, where he piloted a 570S GT4.
Partnering with O’Brien is Simon Orange, who has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years. Orange won the Overall and GTA championships in GT Cup in 2020, retained his GTA title in 2021, and then went on to clinch the Overall, GT3, and Teams’ Championships in 2022, all while racing the 720S GT3 alongside O’Brien.
As the duo prepares to make their British GT debut, Orange expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s going to be really tough as the other drivers, and teams, are the best in the business. But I believe in what we have built over the last few years and we go into this season with a great car and a great team.” O’Brien, too, is confident in their chances, stating, “My goal is clear: I’m here to win the championship and I want to make sure we’re in a position to do that.”
The Intelligent Money British GT Championship is set to commence at Oulton Park over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, and the addition of Orange Racing powered by JMH and their formidable McLaren 720S GT3 is sure to add an exciting new dynamic to the grid.
