Dakar Rally, GT, and British GT Championship News – Qualifying Highlights from Spa-Francorchamps

The British GT Championship made a long-awaited return to the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium this weekend, with a thrilling qualifying session setting the grid for the first race of the season.

    GT3 Class Qualifying

In the highly competitive GT3 class, it was the Mercedes-AMG of Kevin Tse and Maxi Götz that came out on top, converting their stellar practice form into a pole position finish. Götz’s blistering lap of 2:16.334 put the #2 car at the head of the grid, fending off challenges from the Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini of Rob and Ricky Collard, who will start alongside them on the front row.

The Aston Martin of Giacomo Petrobelli and Jonny Adam completed the top three, showing the Vantage’s strong pace around the Ardennes circuit. Meanwhile, Sandy Mitchell and Alex Martin had to settle for fourth in the sister Barwell Lamborghini, despite Mitchell’s best efforts in the Pro session.

    GT4 Class Qualifying

It was a tougher session for the GT4 competitors, with a red flag caused by a crash for the Century Motorsport BMW of Ravi Ramyead cutting the session short. As a result, the grid was set by pre-qualifying times, handing pole position to the Optimum Motorsport Aston Martin of Zac Meakin and Jack Brown.

The DTO Motorsport Ginetta of Stuart Middleton and Freddie Tomlinson will start alongside them on the front row, while the Academy Motorsport Ford Mustangs of Will Moore/Matt Nicoll-Jones and Erik Evans had shown strong pace before the session was halted.

“The British GT Championship grid is now set for an exciting first race of the 2023 season at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday. Fans can follow all the action via the series’ live timing and streaming platforms.”
