    Lamborghini Unleashes Radical Huracan GT3 Evo2 for Dakar and GT Racing Dominance

    Lamborghini Unveils Radical Huracan GT3 Evo2 for Dakar and GT Racing

    Lamborghini is set to introduce its second evolution of the Huracan GT3 model, the Huracan GT3 Evo2, which is poised to be a significant departure from the current Evo variant. According to Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini’s Head of Motorsport, the new car will be “very different” in terms of design and aerodynamics.

    Huracan Racing Lineage and the Evo2

    The Huracan racing lineage dates back to the introduction of the original GT3 model in 2015, and the Evo2 will replace the first Evo upgrade that has been competing globally for the past four years. Sanna emphasized that while the Evo2 will be an evolution of the existing product, Lamborghini considers it a “new car” due to the planned dramatic changes to the design, which will be announced soon.

    “We name it as an Evo2 because it is possible to update the existing car with a dedicated kit,” Sanna explained to Sportscar365. “But in terms of the design and aerodynamics, it will be very different compared to the existing one. We keep the same name of the car and the chassis is the same, so it’s an Evo. But we have worked a lot and made basically a new car from our perspective.”

    Development and Testing

    The Huracan GT3 Evo2 is already in the final stages of its testing program, focusing on endurance running and validation of the finalized systems. Sanna confirmed that the homologation process is complete, and the car is “done” in terms of development.

    “The target was to develop a new car with a close link to the technology and the products that we have in our portfolio like the Huracan STO,” Sanna said. “We will see a lot of new technical features that will be very interesting in my opinion.”

    Debut and Customer Deliveries

    Lamborghini is aiming to have the Huracan GT3 Evo2 ready for customer deliveries in time for the 2023 season, with the car eligible to compete in major GT championships through 2026. While the exact race debut has not been set, Sanna hinted that the team may consider an invitational outing in 2022 before the global customer rollout next year, potentially at events like the 24H Series or NLS.

    “We will decide during the season, but I don’t expect that it will be mandatory for us to debut before [2023] honestly,” Sanna said. “The official debut will be in Daytona next year. We will also decide for the Dubai 24 Hours.”

    With the Huracan GT3 Evo2, Lamborghini is positioning itself for success in the Dakar rally and various GT racing championships in the coming years, offering customer teams a cutting-edge and competitive platform to challenge for victories.
