Julien Andlauer Shines in FIA WEC’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium – In an impressive outing for Proton Competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), Julien Andlauer showcased his prowess behind the wheel of the #99 Porsche 963 Hypercar. The 24-year-old Frenchman, in only his third race in the Hypercar category, delivered a monstrous final stint that saw him charge from 12th to 5th position.
Andlauer and his teammate Neel Jani had a strong start to the race, leading the field during the opening half of the 6-hour endurance event. Despite a red flag period that temporarily disrupted their momentum, the duo remained highly motivated and determined to deliver a solid result for Proton Competition.
“That was the best weekend so far for Proton Competition’s Porsche 963,” said Andlauer. “Our preparations went really well in the practice sessions for the first time this season. The setup was right, so were the tires, strategy, and energy management – the rest was pure racing.”
After the red flag, Andlauer showcased his driving skills, making several brave and calculated moves to climb up the order. His 2:06.459 lap time on Lap 43 was a testament to his impressive form, even after the race restart.
“In the last two hours, I tried to make up as much ground as possible and gave it my all. But I couldn’t do any better than fifth place,” Andlauer added. “Now we’re hugely motivated for the upcoming highlight of the year.”
The FIA WEC calendar 2023 continues with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the pinnacle event of the endurance racing season, where Proton Competition and Andlauer will be aiming to build on their strong performance at Spa-Francorchamps.
