Cadillac Driver Aims for WEC Podium at Austin

In the lead-up to this weekend’s World Endurance Championship (WEC) event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Cadillac driver Alex Lynn has expressed confidence that the American marque has its best chance this season to secure a podium finish.

The Briton, who shares the #2 Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh car with Earl Bamber for the Chip Ganassi Racing team, believes their long-run pace matches that of the leading Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercars. Speaking to Autosport, Lynn said, “> Our long-run pace is up there with Ferrari and Toyota. I say yes with caution because in previous races we’ve seen good pace over a stint in practice and then it hasn’t worked out that way in the race. But we feel very good about the race: the car has a good flow about it, and we can brake late and overtake. Our straightline speed seems good, better than at Interlagos [in July], which is important, big time.”

Lynn’s optimism comes after the Cadillac qualified third, with the Ferraris taking the top two spots on the grid. The Ganassi driver stated that it was time for Cadillac to “nail a good result” in the 2023 WEC season, having qualified in the top four in the previous three races but yet to secure a podium finish.

The team’s best result so far this year came at the season-opening round in Qatar, where they finished fourth, before being disqualified due to a technical infringement. At the Le Mans 24 Hours, the #2 Cadillac driven by Lynn, Bamber, and Alex Palou ended up seventh.

“We want to have a raceday we can be proud of; we haven’t done that this season,” added Lynn, who put in a strong qualifying performance to secure third on the grid, just behind the factory Ferrari of Antonio Giovinazzi and the satellite entry driven by Robert Kubica.

The Lone Star Le Mans six-hour race at the Circuit of the Americas is set to commence at 13:00 local time on Sunday, October 15th, 2023.
