British GT News: F1 and Aggreko Partner for Sustainable Power Generation at European Races

F1 and Aggreko Collaborate for Low-Carbon Energy Generation

In a major move towards sustainability, Formula 1 has announced a multi-year partnership with Aggreko, a global leader in temporary power solutions, to deliver innovative low-carbon energy generation systems at all European Grands Prix starting from the 2025 season. As part of the deal, Aggreko will become an Official Provider of F1.

“The entire paddock is part of our Net Zero by 2030 commitment, and solutions like the low-carbon energy generation system combine technological innovation with coordinated action,” commented Ellen Jones, Head of ESG at Formula 1.

This partnership is a crucial step in Formula 1’s ambitious Net Zero by 2030 commitment. The two organizations have been collaborating since 2023 when they first piloted a centralized power generation compound at the Austrian Grand Prix, which reduced associated carbon emissions by over 90% within the Paddock, Pit Lane, and broadcast areas compared to the 2022 event.

The compound, powered by renewable sources such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biofuel, solar panels, and battery storage systems, was later trialled at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2024 and is currently in place at this weekend’s race in Monza. These expanded trials have consistently delivered significant carbon reductions, paving the way for the system’s implementation across the European Grand Prix season from 2025.

“Aggreko has an unrivalled track record of delivering power transition solutions across the globe, in the most demanding, challenging and mission-critical environments to ensure the needs of our clients are met consistently to the highest standards. As a global leader, we have an important role to play in the energy transition, and we’re thrilled that Formula 1 has chosen Aggreko to help them on their journey to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030,” added Robert Wells, President of Aggreko Europe and Aggreko Event Services.

The expansion of the low-carbon energy generation system to all European races in 2025 means that stakeholders, including Formula 1, F1 Teams, and the FIA, will no longer need to use or bring their own generators, as the centralized system will provide enough power to supply all garages and motorhomes across the race weekend. The system will also power critical areas such as the Pit Wall, Timing Room, the Formula 1 Event Technical Centre, and the International TV Compound, significantly reducing the number of individual generators on-site and the associated emissions from transportation.

This partnership between Formula 1 and Aggreko represents a significant step forward in the sport’s sustainability efforts, demonstrating a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and leading the way in the transition to a more environmentally friendly future.
