BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS UP AT CROFT CIRCUIT

    Croft, UK

The British GT Championship saw an intense battle at the Croft Circuit this weekend, with the Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercars dominating the top of the timesheets in the second free practice session.

In the 90-minute Friday evening session, the two factory Ferrari entries finished 1-2, marking the first time the Italian marque has topped the timesheet since the Le Mans 24 Hours. Antonio Giovinazzi set the pace in the #51 car with a 1:52.268, just five hundredths of a second ahead of teammate Antonio Fuoco in the #52 machine.

The battle at the front was intense, with WRT BMW driver Robin Frijns pushing the Ferraris hard, ending up just six hundredths behind Fuoco’s 1:52.320 with his 1:52.383 in the M Hybrid V8 LMDh. Ganassi’s Alex Lynn and the customer Ferrari of Robert Kubica rounded out the top five.

“Toyota’s Sebastien Buemi was the best-placed of the Japanese marque’s entries, securing sixth overall, while Kamui Kobayashi’s fourth-fastest time was unfortunately deleted due to a track limits violation.”

In the ultra-competitive LMGT3 class, the TF Sport Chevrolet team topped the charts, with Daniel Juncadella posting a 2:05.630 in the #82 Corvette Z06 GT3.R. He edged out the AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 of Alessio Rovera by just four hundredths of a second.

The action continues on Saturday with the final free practice session at 11:00 local time, followed by the all-important qualifying session at 15:00, setting the stage for an enthralling Lone Star Le Mans six-hour race.
