British GT Championship Kicks Off with Thrilling Races at Oulton Park
The British GT Championship kicked off its 2023 season with a weekend of intense racing action at the iconic Oulton Park circuit. All eyes were on the highly anticipated GT3 class, with 23 cars representing the top manufacturers in the sport, including Lamborghini, Audi, BMW, and Ferrari.
The opening race on Saturday saw a dominant performance by the Lamborghini Huracan of Mattia Michelotto and Gilles Stadsbader, racing for Scuderia Vincenzo Sospiri. The Italian duo managed to pull clear of the field, with Michelotto setting a blistering pace at the start and Stadsbader maintaining control throughout his stint to claim a comfortable victory.
“It was a fantastic start to the season for us. The car was perfect, and we were able to push hard from the beginning to build a commanding lead,” said Mattia Michelotto.
Behind them, the Ferrari of AF Corse, driven by Di Amato and Boguslavskiy, secured a hard-fought second place, while the Lamborghini of Cazzaniga and Di Folco rounded out the podium in third, despite a 5-second penalty.
The second race on Sunday proved to be just as exciting, with the BMW M4 GT3 of Klingmann and Hesse, representing the Ceccato Racing Team, emerging victorious. The German duo bounced back from a disappointing outing on Saturday to put in a stellar performance and claim the top spot on the podium.
- Tresor Audi Sport Italia’s Delli Guanti and Mazzola claimed second place.
- The Ferrari of Nurmi and Ferati finished third.
The weekend also saw some notable retirements, including the Tresor Audi of Cola-Moncini and the Imperiale Racing Lamborghini of Bartholomew and Denes.
